Chan (張 博文 / チャン) is one of the three friends who participate in Kazuya Hyōdō's Rescue Game.
Like Mario Garcia, he came to Japan in order to seek money to get out of poverty.
History[]
Chan was originally from a poor rural village in China. Although he is the second son, he was unemployed due to the single child policy of the Chinese government. He was sent into a life of labor and inhumane treatment. He tried desperately to learn Japanese with the Japanese teaching materials that he bought with his small amount of money, aiming to purchase a family register and migrate to Japan to feed his family.
Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: Kazuya-hen[]
He is first introduced when he and Mario Garcia barge into the room and offer their kidneys in exchange for paying off Mitsuyama's debt. Kazuya Hyōdō, being in the same room and witnessing this, offers them the chance to play in his game, the Rescue Game, to pay off their debts.
After losing in the Salvation Game, Kaiji Itō picks him and Mario up before he gambles with Kazuya. Like Kazuya when he first met the three, Kaiji also considers them as gems due to the strong bond of friendship they showed during the Rescue Game and believes they could help him win the gamble by being there with him.
Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: One Poker-hen[]
He and Mario bet their lives on Kaiji in One Poker in order to save him from his first defeat.
By betting their lives lives, they manage to force Kazuya to bet his own life as well towards the end of the gamble.
Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: 24-Oku Dasshutsu-Hen[]
He and Mario go back to their house to retrieve their passports. Mitsuyama offers each of them 1 million yen to compensate for abandoning them during the Salvation game. Disgusted, after retrieving their passports they throw the money right back at him and leave him behind.
As he is not aware of the fact that Kaiji, Chan, and Mario won 2.4 billion yen, he called them as fools and is later called by the Blacksuits in pursuit of them.

- More recently, his name was shown in Chinese in Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: 24-Oku Dasshutsu-Hen, which fans have found to translate to Bowen Zhang.
